There can be age related hormone dysfunction that women experience starting sometime in their forties and this continues through to menopause. We know this can create menstrual irregularities from skipped periods, more frequent cycles (two cycles a month) or continuous bleeding for several days, and changes in consistency of bleeding going from light spotty periods to heavy, clotting periods. This is not the DUB we are talking about today. This is peri-menopause and menopause which is a normal, inevitable process we go through eventually. Today we are discussing DUB that comes about in women in their 20’s and 30’s or the young women that started off this way.

So with that said, what is it that is happening or is not happening that is causing the cycles to be so erratic? The good news is that both Shelly and Ciara are having periods. I know that physically the uterus and ovaries are functioning, and that the brain is sending out the FSH and LH messages to the ovaries, just not on a regular basis. Most of you worry if you will be able to conceive if your cycles are so irregular, and the good news is, that it may require a little help, but if you have your uterus and ovaries it is possible to get pregnant.

The most important thing to do right now is to begin by getting laboratory studies at various times of the month to evaluate your hormones and how your body is functioning and obtain ultrasound studies to ensure that there are no ovarian cyst or uterine abnormalities. These studies will allow us to evaluate what is happening and decide how best to initiate treatment.

I know also so many of you are asking more and more about WaterWorks because your friend got one and loved it. WaterWorks is a safe, effective and FDA cleared method to reduce or eliminate vaginal odor and vaginal discharge. I know many women who are using WaterWorks as part of their daily hygiene to cleanse after vaginal intercourse and their menstrual cycle. WaterWorks is reusable and reduces the need for over the counter gels, or prescription medications. How wonderful.
