Hypermenorrhea and Endometrial Ablation

Hypermenorrhea can be a change in your cycle like increase in blood flow, passing clots, bleeding for longer than 5-7 days a month, cycles every 2 weeks, etc. Or it can be a normal cycle with spotting every day until the next cycle comes.

It’s enough to drive women over the edge because it ruins clothing, causes abnormal vaginal odor (due to the constant presence of blood) and it brings the worry that something serious is wrong - like cancer. And the worry of cancer may cause some women to stay home and avoid seeking medical care.

Luckily, even though we hear a lot about cancer from the media, it is not as common as you would think. Even if you have not gone to your doctor for a pap smear in years and now you are bleeding it doesn't mean you have cancer. It just means you better get in there and get a check-up NOW! Because I said so.

When something starts going wrong with our bodies it is scary to have to go in and find out from a doctor, possibly a stranger, if everything is OK. That is why so many women hesitate to come in or look for alternative treatment.

The latest statistics show that there were over 600,000 hysterectomies last year in the United States, with 150,000 of them being for abnormal bleeding problems. But the most modern approach now available to women who have abnormal bleeding (and are finished having their children) is to undergo an endometrial ablation. It has been shown to work as well as a hysterectomy with not just the bleeding, but also with pain and cramping as well, even after 5 years. It is an easy procedure that requires no hospital stay and no surgical incisions. Endometrial ablation has saved so many women from having to have a hysterectomy and all the time off from work for recovery. Even if you have fibroids you may want to ask your doctor about endometrial ablation if you are experiencing hypermenorrhea.
